GMP Reels: from the heart of Europe and India, delivering solutions to the global wire & cable industry

In 2025 GMP Reels celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Established in Slovakia in 2000 with a small team of specialized technicians, the company has grown into a global leader in the production of steel reels and handling equipment for wire and cable.

As the wire and cable industry has progressively globalized, GMP Reels has expanded its worldwide sales network and, in 2013, opened a second manufacturing facility in Nashik, a few hours from Mumbai.

Today 150 skilled employees work in close synergy across both locations, supported by advanced digital technologies and fully aligned, highly automated production processes.

Robotic welding, laser cutting and CNC machining ensure consistent quality and repeatability: GMP Reels are perfectly equal, regardless of where they are produced.

Traditional steel reels currently represent around 70% of the company’s turnover, while the remaining 30% consists of: collapsible reels for coil packaging, tilters and lifting devices.

With a continuously expanding engineering department (six engineers dedicated to product development), GMP is increasingly focusing on large reel solutions, a fast-growing segment driven by global investments in energy and telecommunications infrastructure.

Large-diameter reels of up to 12 meters are now frequently supplied, engineered to transport cables weighing as much as 500 tonnes

These reels are shipped in disassembled form, assembled directly on the customer’s site and then dismantled again after use — often thousands of miles from where they were originally manufactured.

Such operations require advanced structural analysis, international certifications and high-value insurance coverage to ensure absolute safety and reliability.

Marine-grade surface protection, CE-marked lifting equipment, certified welding procedures, qualified personnel and rigorous testing protocols are part of the daily operations at both GMP Slovakia and GMP India, supporting a consistently increasing level of technical expertise.
