GMP Reels launches DrumFix™: a game-changing coating technology for outdoor cable drums

GMP Reels announces the launch of DrumFix™, an advanced coating system engineered to bridge the gap between traditional industrial painting and costly hot-dip galvanizing.

As the global cable market continues its rapid expansion, outdoor storage cycles are becoming longer and more demanding. Corrosion of steel cable drums has emerged as a critical operational and economic challenge for manufacturers and utilities worldwide.

Advanced triple-layer protection system

Developed in partnership with a global leader in chemical technologies, DrumFix™ is based on high-performance waterproofing compounds used in demanding construction environments.

The process consists of one adhesion primer layer and two structural coating layers, with controlled 12-hour curing phases between applications.

The result is a high-resistance surface offering excellent adhesion, superior abrasion resistance, high surface hardness, strong UV stability, and temperature resistance up to 70°C.

GMP Reels recommends a hybrid application model: standard paint for external drum surfaces and DrumFix™ treatment exclusively on cable-contact areas (inner flanges and barrel).
